Why it matters

OptimistFi's case is that HomeTrust works if its local-bank funding, underwriting, and balance-sheet mix keep producing higher earnings without needing aggressive asset growth. This filing is mixed for that view.

Quarterly net income rose 14.9%, and net income for the first nine months rose to $50.4 million from $48.2 million a year earlier.

The nine-month net interest margin was 4.39%, up from 4.27%. Provision for credit losses fell to $2.1 million from $4.9 million.

HomeTrust said total assets fell $123.9 million to $4.4 billion at September 30, 2026, and deposits declined $126.4 million.

The company said existing liquidity and loan-sale proceeds funded $50.2 million in loan growth and stock repurchases.

The deposit decline came from a $145.6 million reduction in brokered deposits, partly offset by a $19.2 million increase in other deposit categories.

The company also said $181.2 million of HELOC loans were sold with $1.4 million of gains, compared with $243.5 million sold with $2.3 million of gains a year earlier.

What's next

The quarterly dividend is payable November 25, 2026, to shareholders of record November 12, 2026.

HomeTrust said the Blue Ridge deal is expected to close early in the first quarter of 2027, subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals and customary closing conditions.

A completed closing would strengthen the merger case. A delay would leave the current deposit and funding trend as the key read on the business.
