Where the growth came from
Organic sales rose 19%, above the high end of guidance. Acquisitions added 8% and foreign exchange added 1%.
Electrical Global shows the acquisition effect most clearly. Its sales were a record $2.7 billion, up 58%. Organic growth was 27%, and Boyd Thermal added 31% in its second full quarter after the acquisition. Operating profit rose 75% to $576 million, and the margin was 21.1%, up 200 basis points.
Electrical Americas sales were a record $4.2 billion, up 22% organically. Its 29.8% operating margin rose 230 basis points from the prior quarter. Aerospace sales rose 11% to $1.2 billion, but its 24.9% margin fell 100 basis points from a year earlier.
Orders point further out. Twelve-month rolling average organic orders rose 39% in Electrical Americas, 51% in Electrical Global and 20% in Aerospace. Order dollars were at record levels in all three.
Electrical Global backlog at the end of September was up 121% from September 2025. The rolling twelve-month book-to-bill ratio was 1.2 for both the Electrical businesses and Aerospace.

What the acquisitions cost
That growth has changed the balance sheet and the income statement. Eaton paid $9.55 billion, net of cash acquired, for Boyd Thermal on March 12. It paid $1.53 billion, also net of cash acquired, for Ultra PCS Limited on Jan. 23.
Long-term debt was $17.80 billion on Sept. 30, up from $8.76 billion at Dec. 31, 2025. Short-term debt rose to $1.59 billion from $1 million. Net interest expense in the quarter was $198 million against $67 million a year earlier. Intangible amortization was $314 million against $130 million.
Total segment operating profit rose to $2.26 billion from $1.75 billion, so the gap with net income opens below the segment line. The nine-month picture is weaker than the quarter. Net income attributable to ordinary shareholders was $2.77 billion, down from $2.96 billion a year earlier. Diluted earnings per share fell to $7.10 from $7.54.
Why it matters
OptimistFi has argued that Eaton turns steady demand for power-management hardware into expanding margins and strong cash conversion. Record segment margins and record order dollars fit that view, and the quarter strengthens it.
Two caveats limit the read. Part of the sales gain came from acquisitions, and net income grew at a fraction of the sales rate while interest expense and amortization rose. Aerospace margins also slipped from a year earlier even as its sales and orders grew.
What's next
Eaton's fourth-quarter guidance calls for organic growth of 13% to 15% and segment margins of 25.4% to 25.8%. It also guides to adjusted earnings per share of $4.05 to $4.15 and earnings per share of $3.28 to $3.38. The margin range sits above this quarter's record. The release headline says the quarter raises organic growth guidance.
For the full year, Eaton expects adjusted earnings per share of $13.70 to $13.80, against $12.07 in 2025. Its earnings per share range of $10.39 to $10.49 brackets the $10.45 reported for 2025.
On Sept. 25, Eaton agreed to buy COL Group for $921 million, translated at the Sept. 30 exchange rate. The deal needs regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. It is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027. COL Group will report within Electrical Global.
Eaton also plans to combine its Mobility business with Dana Incorporated in a Reverse Morris Trust transaction. It is expected to close in the first four months of 2027, and it needs Dana stockholder approval and regulatory approvals.
Eaton shareholders are expected to own 50.1% of the combined company. Certain Eaton subsidiaries are to receive a cash distribution of about $1.1 billion. Eaton expects to use it in line with its capital allocation framework, including repaying debt.
The fourth-quarter report will show whether Eaton lands inside its guided ranges and whether net income starts to keep pace with sales. A margin below the guided range would weaken the case.
