Marex Group plc Ordinary Shares (NASDAQ:MRX) reported record third-quarter revenue and adjusted profit before tax, as acquisitions, client gains and strong commodities activity helped offset softer equity markets and the seasonal summer slowdown.
Revenue rose 53% from a year earlier to $743 million, while adjusted profit before tax climbed 75% to $176 million. Adjusted earnings per share increased 73% to $1.75, and adjusted return on equity was 36%.
Group CEO Ian Lowitt said the results reflected the company’s efforts to diversify beyond businesses heavily influenced by interest rates and exchange volumes. Adjusted profit before tax increased 6% from the second quarter, even as equity-market volatility softened.
For the first nine months of 2026, revenue rose 47% to $2.1 billion and adjusted profit before tax increased 63% to $495 million, Group CFO Rob Irvin said.
Market-Making and Prime Drive Growth
Revenue increased across all four of Marex’s reporting segments. Market-making revenue more than tripled to $151 million from what Irvin described as an unusually low prior-year base. Adjusted profit before tax in the segment rose to $58 million from $7 million.
Metals market-making revenue reached $91 million, supported by elevated prices and volatility, client hedging demand and the acquisition of Levmet, which closed in June. Securities market-making revenue was $36 million, benefiting from Winterflood and Webb Traders, acquired in August.
Lowitt said Levmet and Webb together generated adjusted profit before tax in the low teens of millions of dollars during the quarter. He attributed much of the broader year-over-year improvement in metals to market conditions and share gains.
Agency and Execution revenue increased 40% to $361 million. Within that segment, Prime revenue doubled to $115 million, while FX revenue more than doubled to $59 million. Prime revenue was modestly below the exceptionally strong second quarter’s $120 million.
Lowitt said Prime balances were lower than the second-quarter average following softer equity markets and a repricing of AI-related stocks, but remained around twice their level a year earlier. Paolo Tonucci, chief strategist and CEO of Capital Markets, said the capital required to support on-balance-sheet Prime business would likely constrain its future growth rate.
Clearing revenue rose 27% to $170 million, with average client balances up 41% to $18.7 billion. Hedging and Investment Solutions revenue increased 26% to $61 million, although lower equity volatility reduced financial-products revenue and margins compared with the second quarter.
Acquisitions and 2027 Outlook
Lowitt said Marex remained comfortable with its target of 10% to 20% adjusted profit-before-tax growth in 2027 from the 2026 level. The baseline includes the impact of an early-2026 credit loss rather than excluding it, he said.
The company’s budgeting assumptions include a full-year contribution from completed acquisitions and the announced Bright Point International deal, but not other potential acquisitions that have yet to close. Lowitt said Bright Point, which he expects to close in the early part of 2027, would strengthen clearing in Asia and enhance Marex’s access to China.
Tonucci said Marex had agreed commercial terms on four potential transactions, largely in clearing and Prime and mostly in Asia or Latin America. He expects the majority to be signed in the fourth quarter or first quarter, although closing depends in most cases on regulatory approval. He said the deals would probably have little financial impact until the second half of 2027.
Marex’s risk-adjusted capital ratio was 12.3% at quarter-end. Lowitt said the company had close to $300 million of capital it could deploy while remaining at the level he associated with an investment-grade rating.
New Services and Financial Position
Lowitt highlighted a U.S. Treasury cross-margining service and prediction-market access as ways to attract institutional clients. Six clients were live on the cross-margining service, with another 15 in the pipeline, he said.
Marex recently began providing clearing access to Kalshi and had six major institutional clients ready to trade, according to Lowitt. The company also plans to go live on Polymarket. Lowitt emphasized that Marex is acting as a clearer, not a market maker, in prediction markets and said it was difficult to estimate the revenue contribution.
The company is also working with exchanges and other participants on potential compute futures tied to the processing power needed for AI models. Lowitt cautioned that the market is at an early stage and that he did not know when such products might receive regulatory approval.
At the group level, net interest income fell to $36 million from $39 million a year earlier, as higher interest expense on senior debt and structured notes more than offset growth in interest income. Marex ended the quarter with $1.3 billion of liquidity headroom and $8.9 billion in total funding sources, Irvin said.
