Avnet, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVT) Expands Revolver by $1 Billion

What happened

Avnet, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVT) expanded its revolving credit commitment to $2.75 billion from $1.75 billion.

The $1.0 billion increase lifts committed capacity by 57.1%. The amendment also allows Avnet, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVT) to request up to another $1.0 billion of commitments, subject to lender participation and the agreement's terms.

The company also removed the SOFR credit spread adjustment from the interest-rate formula. Other terms remain substantially the same, according to the filing.

Why it matters

Avnet, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVT) distributes electronic components across a working-capital-heavy supply chain. More committed liquidity can help the company finance inventory and receivables when customer demand, lead times or component availability shift.

Component distributors often carry substantial inventory between suppliers and customers. That makes the quality and speed of working-capital conversion central to the value of added borrowing capacity.

The amendment improves flexibility, but capacity is not cash generation. A larger revolver only helps shareholders if management uses it for profitable working capital, refinancing or disciplined investment.

The agreement still contains lender commitments and contractual controls. Availability can shrink if conditions are not met, so the $2.75 billion headline should not be treated as unrestricted cash.

Removing the SOFR spread adjustment may lower the formulaic cost of future draws. The filing does not quantify savings because actual interest expense also depends on utilization, leverage-based margins and prevailing rates.

The strongest counterargument is that Avnet, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVT) may simply be increasing optionality. The amendment does not say that the company drew the extra capacity or that liquidity stress forced the change.

What's next

The next evidence is revolver utilization, short-term borrowing, interest expense and operating cash flow in the next report. Inventory and receivable trends will show whether the added capacity supports growth or absorbs cash.

The investment case strengthens if Avnet, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVT) converts the flexibility into durable cash returns. It weakens if higher borrowings fund stagnant inventory or raise interest expense without better margins.
